Job Title: Junior Accountant
Location: Garowe, Somalia
Positions: Two Positions
Reporting to: Senior Accountant/Deputy Manager and Head of Treasury
JOB PURPOSE
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Junior Accountant, Amal Express works under the supervision of the Senior Accountant and is responsible for maintaining financial reports, records and general ledgers; preparing and analyzing budgets and performing general bookkeep. Junior Accountant is also responsible for specific accounting function, such as accounts payable and accounts receivable. Performance is judged based on the quality of work, application of sound methodologies for controlling the financial function, good working relationships, strong decision-making authority and ability to meet time constraints.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts.
Prepare monthly reconciliation and branch’s account closing.
Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system
and from departments in compliance with Company, GAAP and IFRS standards.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annual financial closing and reports and work effectively with Management,
Treasury and Accounting teams.
Assist in the preparation of regulatory reports and management reporting analysis on an as-needed basis.
Analyzes and verifies information and protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
With input from management and Senior Accountant, prepare budgets and monitor actual performance against budget forecast.
Record all financial transactions and pay obligations timely and accurately.
Participate in internal audit reviews and annual financial audit performed by outside accounting firm.
Respond to accounting inquiries in a timely fashion;
Responsible for maintenance of asset inventory.
Develop an expert understanding of accounting, treasury, and compliance policies and procedures and keep current on GAAP and IFRS changes.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
At least 1-2 year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position
International accounting experience is a plus
Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements required
Knowledge & Skills
Strong analytical skills, planning, organizational, and problem solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working in a complex multi-currency accounting environment
Computer literacy essential (Microsoft Office)
Excellent Budgeting and planning skills.
Ability to analyse figures and evaluate financial information
Passion to work with numbers
Must possess basic mathematic skills and knowledge of accounting principles
